All 3 and 4 year olds, and some 2 year olds, have a statutory entitlement to early learning and childcare (nursery education). There are council run nurseries and partner providers. Within each setting we offer different options for patterns of attendance, and the entitlement can be split between providers. The challenge is to find a solution to manage the application process. We need to allocate places fairly in line with our placing guidelines and parents / carers need to be kept informed about the progress of their application. We need the solution to be straightforward for staff and parents / carers to use.

So, how can technology aid parents through the admissions process for an ever-changing statutory entitlement to early learning and childcare?

The Solution

Admit supports local authorities early learning teams with decision support and provides additional revenue streams. Using an algorithm to match parent requirements and circumstances to nursery setting capacity whilst further supporting parents via a management platform where they can submit children's applications and purchase additional hours.

The Opportunity

Across the education sector, there is a huge demand for systemised, flexible and customisable solutions which can ease the burden on local authorities. The solution, Admit, has been built with flexibility in mind and GearedApp hope to roll this out to other local authorities and educational organisations that deal with complex admission processes.

Next Steps

The first step has been to validate that the algorithm can make the same decisions a human would, showing an immediate return on investment through reduced administrative overhead. Next steps are to build in the configurability and flexibility that enables local authorities to deliver government policy.
